OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of lysyl oxidase and its correlation with prognosis of ovarian cancer.METHODS: The expression of lysyl oxidase was detected in malignant, borderline and benign ovarian epithelial tumor tissues by immunohistochemical SABC method. Logrank method was used in analysis of the relationship between the expression of lysyl oxidase and five year survival rate.RESULTS: The protein expression rates of lysyl oxidase were 66%, 25% and 20% in malignant ovarian epithelial tumor tissues, borderline tumors and benign tumors respectively. Statistic difference of protein expression rates of lysyl oxidase was found between malignant and borderline tumors (P<0.05). Significant correlation of the protein expression of lysyl oxidase was found in clinical staging, but not in pathological grading and lymph node metastasis. The protein expression rate of lysyl oxidase in stagingⅠ~Ⅳof ovarian cancer were 33%,66%,85%,100% respectively. There was a significant difference in five year survival rates between the group with intense expression of lysyl oxidase and low expression.CONCLUSION: Lysyl oxidase is correlated to the progress of the ovarian cancer, can be used as a factor for prognosis.
