Objective: As the increasing of Chinese old people and the arthrositis in old people. The total knee replacement become popular in the currenty years. The duration and successsful outcome become the focal point of total knee repacement. To investigate the morphology of knees in Chinese, and direct the design of total knee arthroplasty for Chinese population, we simulate the surgery of total knee replacement to cut the tibia and femur, then measured and analysised some related parameters. Methods: Using computer tomography(CT) images to collect 120 knee CT images to construction three dimensional model of Chinese digital knees, which was cut simulate the surgery of total knee replacement (TKR). The proximal tibia was cutted 6mm below the medial tibial plateau with 7°posterior slope. The tibial mediolateral (tML) and tibial anteroposterior(tAP) were measured in the proximal tibia. The distal femur was cutted 9 mm above the lowest point of medial condyle with 6°valgus in the 3D image of the knee these models . The femoral mediolateral (fML) and femoral anteroposterior(fAP) were measured in the distal femur. The statistic analysised were performed using the Student t-test and the Paired t-test. Results: The tML and tAP in 120 Chinese knees were 72.9±4.5mm and 49.6±3.5mm, respectively. The results was different from some other research. The correlation coefficient between tML and tAP was 0.82, which was stronger than the the Male (0.50) and Female (0.57) indepedently. The fML and fAP in 120 Chinese knees were 74.9±2.9mm and 66.6±2.4mm, respectively. The results was different from some other research and the prostheses used currently in China. The correlation coefficient between fML and fAP was 0.80, which was greater than the the Male (0.52) and Female (0.63) indepedently. Conclusions: There were significant strong correlation between ML and AP in tibia and femur of Chinese knee. The Chinese should be considered as a whole in total knee arthroplasty design for Chinese population. Combined with the morphology of tibia and femur, the proper prostheses for Chinese population will be design. This research may be as a guildling for total knee arthroplasty for Chinese population.
