Objective The purpose of this study was to assess the expression CD57 and Bcl-2 in eutopic and ectopic endometrium of endometriosis women and to investigate the changes of CD57 and Bcl-2 and to explorethe role of CD57 and Bcl-2 in endometriosis. Methods Immunohistochemical method (S-P)was used to detect the expression of the antigene CD57 and the apoptosis regulating protein Bcl-2 in endometriosis with specific monoclonal antibodies. Samples were obtained from 30 patients with endometriosis and from 20 normal endometrium. Results The expression of CD57 were present on the plasma membrane. There was no significant difference in the number of CD57 antigen positive cells between endometriosis and contrast group . There was the trend of enhancement in the CD57 expression of endometriosis. The expression of Bcl-2 was predominately found in the glandular cytoplasm of the glandular epithelial cells. Bcl-2 expression in proliferative phase was higher than that in secretory phase in the normal endometrium and eutopic endometrium, showing obvious cyclic changes; The expression of Bcl-2 in ectopic endometrium of endometriosis was significantly increased compared with that of endometrium of the contrast group. Conclusions The expression of CD57 in endometriosis is not related to the development of endometriosis; The Bcl-2 cyclic change may play an important role in the menstrual cycle; The high and lasting expression of Bcl-2 in ectopic endometrium of endometriosis may play an important role in forming endometriosis.
