The Clinical Study Of Fluoride Thermoplastic Resin Preventing Dental Caries In Abutment Teeth Of Removable Partial Dentures

Objective: Study the effect of the removable topical-fluoride denture base to prevent dental caries in abutment teeth.Methods: 24 defect of dentition patients were selected and randomly divided into control group and experimental group.Subjects in the control group weared fluoride self-curing resin RPDs including CaF₂ and subjects in the experimental group weared Fluoride thermoplastic resin RPDs including CaF₂. Subjects began to use toothpaste including no fluoride to brush teeth. At the beginning of the experiment, saliva and plaque were collected as baseline samples Fluoride ion-specific electrode was used to measure the fluoride concentration in dental plaque and saliva in one week,two weeks,three weeks,four weeks after subjects weared RPDs. Observed mucosa condition during the expriment.Results : The fluoride concentration in saliva was not raised significantly in each group; in the control group and experimental group, compared with the fluoride concentration in plaque which was collected from the teeth away from abutment teeth, fluoride concentration in plaque which was collected from the abutment teeth was higher (P<0.05).compared with the control group, fluoride concentration in plaque did not change significantly in the experimental group ( P > 0.05 ) . in each group,shedding and rupture was not found in the fluoride-added resin and subjects wearing the RPDs felt good and had no mucosa irritation in buccal mucosa,lingual mucosa and alveolar crest mucosa.Conclusion : The fluoride thermoplastic resin can raise the fluoride concentration significantly in plaque of abutment teeth and can not significantly raise the fluoride concentration in saliva,its effective scope is small and it is exclusive to abutment teeth. The fluoride thermoplastic resin can release fluoride ion continually.Subjects wearing the RPDs feel comfortable and have no mucosa irritation.Shedding and rupture is not found in the fluoride-added resin base plate. These facts suggest that fluoride-added resin is safe. we believe that fluoride thermoplastic resin is more fit to clinical application.
