ObjectiveAutogenous cartilage grafts are bing widely used with increasing frequency in clinical cineplastic surgery, and have received good results from clinical reports.But there is a heat debate that whether the cartilage can grow after the transplantation.From numerous studies,scientists indicated that the cartilage would loose their grow ability when it subjected external injury ,and only left their activity.However,there are some studies hold the reverse opinions by proving that cartilage with or without cartilaginous membrane can grow after being transplanted both in normal position and aberrance.The only difference of the effect of transplantation is that the cartilage with cartilaginous membrane has more significant proliferation than that without cartilaginous membrane.Currently,there is a common use of autogenous cartilage with or without ePTFE or ATSS as the basic graft materials in cineplastic surgery.But there is no one that report the effect of these materials transplanted in the receptor.This study will briefly introduce the effect of the compounds(cartilage,cartilage with ePTFE,cartilage with ATSS) transplanted in the back of rabbits,and build a standard for the further clinical usage.Method1 The cartilages are cut off in pieces with same size and remain the cartilaginous membrane.Then we transplant the compounds(bare cartilage,cartilage with ePTFE,cartilage with ATSS) in the back of rabbits respectively.The phenotype of the transplanted location will be observed.2 We extract the compounds(cartilage,cartilage with ePTFE,cartilage with ATSS) in 2,4,8 and 12 weeks and measure the size of the cartilage .The growth of cartilage and host versus grafts reaction are observed by Hematoxylin and eosin(HE) stain,such as cartilage proliferation and blood vessel reconstruction.Results1 The transplanted location was observed in 2 weeks,and we could not found any hematoma infection,necrosis and cartilage discard.2 The there groups cartilage pieces transplanted under different condition were extracted in 2,4,8 and 12 weeks respectively and the statistical difference between size of specimen could not be observed.3 We used HE stain to find the proliferation of cartilage and reconstruction of microcirculation of these specimen under microscope .However,this phenomena of ePTFE-cartilage groups occured much earlier than ATSS-cartilage groups.Moreover,we could find some lymphocyte and granular cells in the membrane of bare cartilage and ePTFE-cartilage,and the cellular number decreased in line with the time moving on.Conversely,there are more lymphocytes and heterophil granulocytes observed in the membrane.What's more,we can also find some macrophage and foreign body giant cells.Conclusion1 The growth of transplanted location is well and we can conclude that the experiments subsequently undergone had no correlation with the physiology and anthropogenic operation.2 Because of no statistical difference between specimen,we can concluded that the cartilage did not grow significantly.3 The cartilage with cartilageous membrane had ability in proliferation and the reconstruction of blood vessel could promote the speed of this process.4 The cartilages which are transplanted in these three groups(cartilage,cartilage with ePTFE,cartilage with ATSS) are survived in good condition and new cartilage proliferation can be observed conspicuously.However,the proliferation of cartilage in first two groups occurs much earlier than the third group. Thus we can conclude that the proliferation of cartilages would not be hindered when they were transplanted with ePTFE or ATSS in the back of rabbits.5 The lymphocyte and granular cells found in the membrane of bare cartilage and ePTFE/cartilage is the nature immune reaction against the operation hold on the rabbits.From the appearance of macrophage and foreign body giant cells,we can concluded that ePTFE is more appropriate for transplantation.
