Purpose: To probe into the effectiveness of clinical treatment of the post-stroke spasmus of upper limbs with Spasmus-relieving Therapies and Comprehensive Treatments. Method: 60 cases collected in clinical research are randomly distributed into the experimental group and the control group, each with 30 cases. The control group are treated with routine curative measures of western medicine plus limb rehabilitative exercises, while the control group, aside from the same treatments, are added with comprehensive TCM measures, including oral medication of Chinese herbs through syndrome differentiation, external fomenting with muscle-relaxing and blood-activating decoction, Yin-Yang balanced acupuncture and massaging. After 8 weeks, curative effects of the two groups are rated according to modified Ashworth Scores in Spasticity and Fugl-Meyer Appraisal (FMA) and Modified Barthel Index (MBI). Result: Patients with post-stroke spastic upper limbs are mostly of the type of liver-kidney Yin-deficiency, wind-phlegm channel and collateral blocking, Qi-deficiency blood stagnancy and blood stasis channel and collateral blocking, which account for 86.7% of the total. Comparisons of Ashworth Scores, FMA and MBI between the experimental group and the control group all reveal significant difference with P<0.05. Conclusion: The pathology of post-stroke spastic upper extremities is mainly stasis resulting from deficiency. Therefore, in addition to the curative treatment with internal western medicine, comprehensive TCM measures will greatly contribute to the recovery of clinical symptoms and the reduction of disability incidences, improving immensely to the patients' rehabilitation.
