| Objective: The objectives of the present study are to evaluate the effectiveness of Fei KangFang in treating the lung cancer and to discuss its mechanism in treatment, and to observe the effects of Fei KangFang on the expression of VEGF in model mice. Methods: The study starts with 94confirmed primary lung cancer patients who were randomly divided into two groups. 44 patients within the Treated Group were treated with Fei KangFang and chemotherapy together. The other 50 patients within the Controlled Group were treated with chemotherapy only. The clinical therapeutic effects were then observed. Lewis lung carcinoma model in mice was established; the carcinoma-inhibiting rate of Fei KangFang was examined; and the effects of Fei KangFang on the expression of VEGF in model mice were observed. Results: In the clinical study, the Treated Group showed better than the Controlled Group in symptom betterment, improving the quality of existence, focus stabilization and weakening cancer and enhancing the effects of treatment. The experimental study suggests that Fei KangFang can obviously decrease the expression of VEGF in the carcinoma cells ,and inhibit the growth of tumor. Conclusions: The findings indicate that Fei KangFang is safe and effective in the combined-modality therapy of lung cancer, and that one of the Lewis lung carcinoma-inhibiting mechanism of Fei KangFang may be decreasing the expression of VEGF in the carcinoma cells, and halting the growth and metastasis of the carcinoma cells. |
