Purpose: The study is focus on the inhibition effect of Chinese decoction She Zhi Huang Ling Decoction(SD) on malignant glioma. Compared with chemotherapy drug BCNU, the inhibition effect was observed both experimentally and clinically. Methods: 63 patients with maglinant glioma were divided into treatment group and control group randomly, 33 cases in treatment group were given SD and BCNU treatment, 30 cases in control group were given BCNU treatment. The living status, blood indexes and CT or MRI data were summarized in order to observe the change before and after the treatments. In experimatal research, the inhibition effect of SD on C6 glioma cell was studied in vitro, and discuss the mechanism. Results: In clinical study, the imageology examination showed the reduce rate of tumor in treatment group is 67% , control group is 40% , clinical status improvement rates were 52% and 33%, survival rates after 6 month were 76% and 70%. In conclusion, compared with treatment group, treatment can improve clinical symptom and living quality significantly and plays an important role in reducing the side effects and toxicological effects in chemotherapy. The results of experimental study showed treatment can remarkably inhibit the growth of glioma cell both in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: SD can inhibit the growth of glioma, improve patients'living quality and reduce the side effects. We hypothesized that the SD may have killed the cancer cells directly and enhanced the immune function, the mechanisms need further study.
