Objective:The aim was to investigate the concentration of sTREM-1 in peripheral blood and sputum from patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and to analyze the correlation between the sTREM-1 and the severity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Methods:The concentration of sTREM-1 in peripheral blood and sputum were determined by ELISA in 12 acute exacerbation of COPD subjects,11 acute exacerbation of COPD subjects treated 2 weeks,17 stable COPD subjects, and 12 healthy individuals. The total and differential white cell counts, pulmonary function tests were performed at the same time. And the relationship between the concentration of sTREM-1 in sputum from patients with acute exacerbation of COPD and FEV1 was analyzed. Results:The concentration of sTREM-1 in sputum from acute exacerbation of COPD group(243.65±86.42 pg/ml)and exacerbation of COPD subjects treated 2 weeks group(124.84±35.65pg/ml)had a significantly higher than the stable group(13.23±9.76 pg/ml),(P<0.05).No significantly differences in the concentration of sTREM-1 were observed among the acute exacerbation of COPD group and exacerbation of COPD subjects treated 2 weeks.Comparison to control group(24.86±12.01pg/ml)in peripheral blood, the concentration of sTREM-1,acute exacerbation of COPD group(59.57±23.46pg/ml),acute exacerbation of COPD subjects treated 2 weeks group(31.43±25.81 pg/ml),the stable group(23.96±12.94 pg/ml)had no significantly differences. In acute exacerbation of COPD group, the concentration of sTREM-1 in sputum was significantly negative correlated with FEV1%(r=-0.623,P<0.05).Independent factor of the lung function by linear Regression(stepwise):the concentration of sTREM-1 in sputum with acute exacerbation of COPD was significantly negative correlated with FEV1%,but Sex was positive correlated. Conclusion: The airway inflammation can be reflected by the concentration of sTREM-1 in sputum from patients with acute exacerbation of COPD,and the concentration of sTREM-1 may be a prognosis index of COPD,sTREM-1 seems to the standard of the therapy of airway inflammation in the future. On the contrary,it can not be reflected by the concentration of sTREM-1 in peripheral blood.
