Objective:To research whether the chinese mugwort leaves’smoke will lead to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and to study the effect of Qihuangyifei mixture on the inflammatory in the airway and pathology of the airway in the rat with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Methods:Ninety male SD rats were randomly divided three groups:blank control group, leaves’smoke group and cigarette COPD model group. SD rats were exposed to simple fume for three months. The general signs and pathological features were observed, and the function of lungs, blood routine, and BALF cytology were measured. After the evaluation of COPD model, left10rats from the blank control group as normal control group, left fifty male SD rats from the cigarette COPD model group were randomly divided into five groups:COPD model control group (10), Bailing capsule control group (10) and Qihuangyifei groups (30). The levels of IL-8and TNF-a in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were measured and the pathology of the airway and lung tissue was observed affter treatment on the rats. Results:Compared with the blank control group, the leaves’smoke of bronchia group (pure moxa stick,24g/2times/day) and cigarette COPD model group (Hong he-cigarette60g/2times/day) rats showed obviously chronic bronchitis characteristic pathological changes in lung tissue that the structure of pulmonary disorder, such as lung tissue cells damage, inflammatory cell infiltration and alveolar enlarged and fusion as lung bullae, in line with the morphology of COPD diagnosis; the number of leukocyte and neutrophils increased obviously (p<0.01); the IL-8,TNF-a expression in BALF and serum increased significantly (p<0.01). The pathological changes of lung tissue were lessen in the Qihuangyifei groups(p<0.05), and in Qihuangyifei middle dose group, the levels of IL-8and TNF-a in the serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were lower than in COPD model control group (p<0.05). Conclusion:The chinese mugwort leaves’ smoke can lead SD male rats to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The Qihuangyifei mixture can reduce the levels of IL-8and TNF-a in serum and BALF, and has inhibitory effect on inflammation in the airway with COPD.
