Abstract/Summary:
Objective:We compared the brain CT or MRI images of patients with Multi-Infarct Dementia and of persons with multiple cerebral infarction history but without cognition damage, we also analysis ACTH, cortisol, leptin, blood-fat and correlation between them in the two groups above and healthy aged control group.The object is to evaluate the impact of the volume and location of infarction to MID. The change of Hypophysis-Adrenal-Leptin level is our indicatrix, too. Some theory evidence about etiopathogenesis and cure would be elucidated.Methods: A total of 96 persons were selected, 35 with MID, 31 with multiple cerebral infarction history but without cognition damage, 30 were healthy aged control. In groups 1 and 2, we analysised the volume and location of infarctions, and we detected ACTH, cortisol and leptin with radio-immunity in all the 3 groups, blood-fat was determined, too. All the data was analysised with SPSS.Results: Simple right cerebral hemisphere infarction is obviously scarcer in MID(P<0.05). Infarctions in lobus temporalis, basal ganglia and cerebral ganglion are more common in MID than in group 2(P<0.05). The levels of ACTH and cortisol are higher in MID than group 2 and control group(P<0.05). There are more persons with high serum leptin in MID group than in other group(sP<0.05). Direct correlation were found between ACTH, cortisol and leptin in MID group.Levels of TC and TG of MID group and group 2 are higher than the controls. LDL are higher in MID group than in other groups, while HDL is lower. There is direct correlation between leptin and TC, LDL.Conclusions:The patients with infarctions in archae-hemisphere or ambi- hemisphere have more risk of dementia. After the occurrence of cerbral infarction, the accentuation of Hypophysis-Adrenal axis, leptin resistance and high LDL are also risk factor of MID. There is correlation between Hypophysis-Adrenal axis, leptin and LDL.
