KangFuXin is a biological agent extracted from roach, and its main pharmaco-component including polyalcohol and peptide. It was effective in curing all kinds of trauma (such as burning, scald, knife wound and telephium), but there is almost no report on its use and effect on bony defects.[Objective] The aim is to investigated the effects of KangFuXin on bony defects in rabbits and its probable mechanism, and offer basic data for empirical study and clinical application next step.[Methods] With self-control design, bony defects on rabbits had been made artificially before experiment. The experimental group had been overlapped with gelatin sponge soaking KFX liquid while the control group received no treatment. The rabbits were executed in the first,, the second, he fourth and the eighth week after post-treatment for bony defects, aiming at investigating repairing conditions and tissue changing of different periods .Using the methods of the X-ray films, the image analysis of the HE, the Massion as well as the trichrome stain on the bone tissue slices. Then we observed the capability of KangFuXin on promoting bony regeneration.[Results] (1)Sample observation: There is almost no difference between experimental group and control group. (2)X-ray observation: There is almost no significant deviation in first week. Callus formation of experimental group seemed to be better than control group in the middle of the experiment (2/4 week). There is almost no difference between experimental group and control group in callus formation, but callus density of experimental group is better than the control group. (3)Histological observation: Rapid organization of hematoma, fibroblast proliferation, granulation tissue prosperity, angioplerosis and osteogenesis at broken ends of bone defect could be observed in experimental group in the first week, but there is not statistical significance in new bone formation (P>0.05) . On appearance of woven bone, osteoid and bone trabecula and so on ,the experimental group was faster than control group, but there is not statistical significance in new bone formation (P>0.05) .Based on these findigs, KFX is possible to promote the growth of blood vessel, granulation, hematoma organization, the proliferation and differentiation of MES cell, earlier appearance of osteoblast and new bone, and then it could accelerate the initial part of bone defect curing. But concerning about the agglutination of bony defects, effects of KFX is of possible limitations.
