Objective: To study the relationship between the factors such as renal function and cardiac remodeling in elderly patients with hypertensive nephropathy. Methods: 63 cases of elderly patients with hypertensive nephropathy were collected in our hospital, and divided into 4 groups according to their renal function. Retrospective analysis was used to study if there were differences between the groups in cardiac sizes & function, hemoglobin, red blood cell count, blood glucose, blood uric acid, blood lipids. Results: There were not statistically significant differences in cardiac sizes & function, blood glucose, blood uric acid and blood lipids between the groups (P>0.05). However, except for the uremia group and renal failure group, there were significant differences in the red blood cell count and hemoglobin between the other groups(P<0.05).Conclusion: The cardiac remodeling may be related to the factors, such as urotoxic accumulation in the body; internal environment disorders; anemia and malnutrition; and the pre- or after-overload of heart in patients with essential hypertension complicated with chronic renal insufficiency. Nevertheless, the relationship between hypertensive nephropathy and cardiac remodeling were not found in this study, the reason may come from the smaller sample in the study. Further research is needed to study the relationship between hypertensive nephropathy and cardiac remodeling.
