Objectives: To analyze the relations among some risk's factors and afer-infection in benign lesions of jaw, and evaluate the merits and defects to use different materials and curing skills for the lesions of bone. Methods: A retrospective study was done. 177 cases with benign lesions of jaw underwent surgical resection in our hospital from 1994 to 2006. They had been operated using different approaches and filling up with different materials into the lesions of bone. Parts of the cases had after-infection. Some parameters are considered in the study. The datas were analyzed statistically, respectively. Results: The univariate analysis indicated that after-infection was associated with different materials filled up into the bone cavity. They have different after-infection rate. Among all the materials, using gelatin sponge and fibrin sealant team have taller after-infection rate evidently than other teams. There was statistical difference between the two. Using Phenol to cauterize or gentamicin to wash the bone cavity would make lower after-infection rate, but there was no statistical difference. Conclusions: The factors that filling up with different materials in to the bone cavity after the resection of benign lesions of jaw could impact on the after-infection. Combine to fill up with gelatin sponge and fibrin sealant into bone cavity would make higher after-infection rate. This should be noticed during the clinical treatment.
