| To review the clinical presentation, diagnosis, experience of treatment and pathology of primary tracheal tumor. Methods:Medical history records of 10 patients with primary tracheal tumor who were treated at Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University between January 2001 and December 2006 were retrospectively analyzed.Nine patients carry out tracheoscopy and seven patients carry out CT scan.Five patients underwent sleeve tracheal resection with tracheal reconstruction immediately, four patients underwent endotracheal tumours resection, one patient received only radiotherapy. Results:The rate of diagnosis for Tracheoscopy and CT are 100%and 87.1%respectively.Five patients underwent sleeve tracheal resection followed by end-to-end anastomosis successfully without severe surgery complication. One patient treated by radiotherapy and three patients which underwent endotracheal tumours resection relieved respiratory tract obstruction.Seven patients had malignant tumors, among which 3 cases were squamous cell carcinoma and 2 cases were adenoid cystic carcinoma.Three patients had benign tumors, among which 2 cases were papillary epithelioma and 1 case was leiomyoma. Conclusions:The pristine presentation of primary tracheal tumor is irritative tussis and the late presentation is obstruction of airway.Primary tracheal tumor can easily be misdiagnosed because of its nonspecific clinical presentation.Tracheoscopy and CT can diagnose primary tracheal tumor effectively.Surgery is the first choice for tracheal tumors and sleeve tracheal resection followed by end-to-end anastomosis is safe surgical modality. Most of primary tracheal tumors in adult are malignant, but in children are benign. |
