Obective. The retrospective study was performed to elucidate the chemotherapeutic effect, so as to analyze its probable prognostic factors.Materials and Methods. 145 pations with advanced esophageal cancer were treated from Dec 1984 to Apr 2006 in Cancer Hospital of CAMS. All of the cases were confirmed histologically. Using Kaplen-Meier survival analysis and Log-rank test to evaluate the association of clinical parameters and prognosis. Using X~2 anaplysis to compare the response rate of two groups.Results. The median age of all patients was 58 years(range, 34-80years) and the median Karnofsky performance scores were 80(range, 60-90scores), response rate was 45.5% ,time to progression was 4 months, median survival time was 10 months. The response rate of new-agent group and cisplation-group were higher than old-agent group and non-cisplation-group, with P value of 0.002,0.013,respectively. The univariate analysis indicated that age,the value of HB before treatment, cycles of chemotherapy, effect, time to progression and therapeutic methods were significant prognostic factors. The multivariates Cox regression analysis demonstrated that time to progression, therapeutic methods and the value of HB before treatment appear to impact on survival.Conclusions. The response rate of 145 pationts with advanced esophageal cancer was 45.5%, the new-agent group was 58.8%, the cisplation-group was 50.9%. The univariate analysis indicated that age,the value of HB before treatment, cycles of chemotherapy, effect, time to progression and therapeutic methods were significant prognostic factors. The multivariates Cox regression analysis demonstrated that time to progression, therapeutic methods and the value of HB before treatment appear to impact on survival.
