Objective: To investigate the expression of Maspin,β-catenin, MVD in invasive breast cancer and the relationship between clinical pathological parameters. To further explore its relevant mechanisms and study its role in breast tumorigenesis and progression for providing early diagnosis and treatment. Methods: Envision immunohistochemical method was used to assess the expression of Maspin,β-catenin, MVD in 82 cases of invasive breast cancer, 16 breast cancer in situ, 20 cases of ductal epithelial simple hyperplasia and 15 normal tissues. The clinical pathological significance of Maspin expression was evaluated. To study its relationship with P-catenin, MVD in breast cancer. Results: 1. The expression of Maspin in normal tissues, simple ductal epithelial hyperplasia, breast cancer in situ and invasive breast cancer was 100%,90%,75%,45.1% respectively, which were all lower than that of control.(P<0.05); 2.The expression of Maspin in different breast tissue have different presence. Strong positive nuclear expression was found in normal epithelium. The Maspin plasma expression was increased and strong from simple ductal epithelial hyperplasia, breast cancer in situ to invasive breast cancer; 3. The result of analysis showed that the expression of Maspin in invasive breast cancer was negatively correlated with the TNM grading and lymph node metastasis.(P<0.05, P<0.01); 4. The expression of Maspin was in relation to survivals. We showed that higher Maspin expression was significantly associated with better rates of overall survival.(P<0.05);5.β-catenin abnormal expression of the Maspin-negative cases(88.9%)was significantly higher than that of the Maspin-positive cases(29.7%).Maspin expression had a negative correlation with abnormal expression ofβ-catenin.(r=-0.607, P<0.01);6. Maspin expression had a negative correlation with MVD.(r=-0.450, P<0.01)Conclusion: The Maspin protein maybe act an important role in the development of breast cancer. The expression of Maspin was closely related to the survival rate and can be used as the predictor of prognosis. Down-regulated expression of Maspin had correlation with abnormal expression ofβ-catenin. And Maspin expression had a positive correlation with MVD. It was presumed that Maspin inhibit progression of breast cancer probably contributes to inhibiting cell adhesion, enhancing cell mobility and invasion, decreasing angiogenesis.
