OBJECTIVE: To discover the relationship between etiological factors of common cold ofwind-cold type and cold-wetness type, and the relationship among these etiological factors.METHODS: According to the theory of diseases caused by exogenous evils in TraditionalChinese Medicine, and considering the extension of matter-element, meteorology, andepidemiology, we designed a questionnaire to find the possible etiological factors that patientsconfronted, including environmental factors, meteorology factors, individual physiology, psychology, and habit factors. We collected clinical data of wind-cold type and cold-wetnesstype patients at test plot. Construct database, evaluate the quality of the data, use the way ofdecision tree to do data mining and analyze data. By calculate the information gain todetermine the contribution of every factor in the process of invasion, get decision tree, anddisplay the correlativity among the factors.RESULTS: We got 1206 pieces of clinical record, in which 934 are wind-cold type, and 272are cold-wetness type. Choose factors from different aspect, analyze data, get decision trees. We find that in the normal data, educational background, region, and living stand playimportant parts, information gain respectively is 0.279, 0.26, 0.251. In living habits andanamnesis, exercise habit and case history work mostly, the information gain respectively is0.356, 0.296. In environment and meteorology factors, temperature difference, wind force, andcase history effect the occurrence of wind-cold type, information gain respectively is 0.275,0.302, 0.291, contrast to average temperature, wetness and temperature difference influencethe occurrence of cold-wetness type, information gain is 0.285, 0.291, 0.288. Combiningvarious kind of factors, temperature difference, wind force, case history play main roles in thedevelopment of wind-cold type, with the information gain 0.305,0.298,0.301, and averagetemperature, wetness, case history play main roles in the development of cold-wetness type, with the information gain 0.302,0.296,0.292. And we set up a pathogeny analyzing systemfor diseases caused by exogenous evils.CONCLUSION: 1.Education and income effect patients' action of taking hospital treatment;2.People in middle age are potential crowd easy to suffer cold; 3.Weather factors have obviousinfluence on wind-cold and cold-wetness cold caused by exogenous evils; 4.The occurrence of wind-cold and cold-wetness type of cold is a result of many factors; 5. Proper sports havecounteractive effects on the occurrence of disease caused by exogenous evils.
