On Rural Cooperative Medical System In China

The rural Cooperative Medical System (CMS) had played an important role inrelieving peasants' burden of diseases in china. The CMS, the net of medical service andthe village doctors are the three key points to resolve the problem of peasants' medicaldemand in developing countries. Since 1990's diseases have become one of the majorreasons resulting in poverty in rural china with the rapid growth of medical expenditures.It is an urgent task that rural medical security systems be established as soon as possiblein order to improve availability of rural medical service. Due to the imbalance ofeconomic development in different regions of china, it is not possible to establish aunified rural medical system at present time. The government starts a new exploration.The purpose of this research is to find out the new situation that the CMS faces andthe factors that influence the CMS. On this basis, I propose some suggestions to improvethe efficiency of the new CMS and its sustainable development. The main content of thisthesis includes: the history of CMS, the reasons of its development and prosperity, thecharacteristics of new CMS, the difficult position that new rural cooperative medicalsystem is facing, advanced experiences from overseas, the most important point,measures that should be taken to consummate the new rural Cooperative Medical System.
