ObjectiveTo evaluate the quality of life of the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(diabetes mellitus, DM) in community, explore the related factors to quality of life, sothat to provide scientific evidence for improving the quality of life of type 2 diabetesmellitus patients.Methods217 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who were detected by a screening prior tothe study in the Nankai District and Hangu District of Tianjin were investigated byface to face interview. The data were collected including demographic characteristics, the quality of life assessing by The Diabetes Specific Quality of Life Scale (DSQL), and the depression status by Center for Epidemiological Survey, Depression Scale(CES-D). The data was analyzed with SSPS 11.5 software, multiple linear regressionand unconditional logistic regression were used to explore the influencing factors ofquality of life.ResultsThe physical function, psychology/mind, social relationship, influence oftreatment, total scores were 22.129±7.187, 16.387±4.478, 6.931±1.658, 4.502±1.323, 49.949±11.604, respectively. The results of multiple linear regression indicated thatthe scores of physical function dimension were statistically significantly associatedwith numbers of DM complications, numbers of other chronic diseases, severity of depression, diets with more fishery products; The scores of psychology/minddimension were statistically significantly associated with numbers of DMcomplications, favorite of salty diet, living in countryside, severity of depression, attitude toward DM; the scores of social relationship dimension were statisticallysignificantly associated with the severity of depression, living in countryside, lowerfrequency of blood sugar monitoring; the scores of influence of treatment dimensionwere statistically significantly associated with number of DM complications, age, diets with more meat, per-capita monthly income; the total scores were significantlyassociated with numbers of DM complications, severity of depression, numbers ofother chronic diseases. The results of multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that the followingfactors were statistically associated with poor quality of life: diets with more meat(OR=1.617, 95%CI: 1.103~2.369),numbers of DM complications (OR=2.817, 95%CI: 1.696~4.678), cerebrovascular disease (OR=3.073, 95%CI: 1.174~8.046), severity of depression (OR=1.924, 95%CI: 1.112~3.327); and intake more legume(OR=0.631, 95%CI: 0.447~0.891) were associated with good quality of life.ConclusionsThe results of multiple linear regression and multiple Logistic regression bothshowed that numbers of DM complications, severity of depression were the maininfluencing factors that can affect the different dimensions of quality of life inpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Effective measures should be taken in order toimprove the quality of life while treating the diabetes mellitus itself. It is veryimportant to pay more attention to reduce the incidence of DM complications andtreat the complications positively, Psychological support must be stressed in order tomake the patients look on the disease correctly and amend bad mood.
