ObjectiveTo develop the measure instrument of ability of Self-regulated Learning of nursing undergraduates. By using this measure instrument, the Self-regulated Learning ability of nursing undergraduates can be measured quantitatively, so that nursing educators realize the ability of undergraduates and instruct the students accordingly.MethodsIn the theory-based study, we proposed framework of ability of Self-regulated Learning, and the following four elements for the ability of nursing undergraduates were established: study motivation, the ability of study cooperation, the ability of study self-managed, information literacy. After the establishment of the measuring method, according to the general principle and methods of educational as well as psychological measurement, the holistic plan for measuring instrument was performed and every measuring target of the ability of Self-regulated Learning was analyzed seriously. The test scale was compiled. And then with expert consultation, trial testing, the scale was developed finally.In order to know about the current status of the ability of Self-regulated Learning in nursing undergraduates and find out the problems in nursing teaching, the self-made scale was applied to testing the nursing undergraduates, and aimed at the problems reflected from the tests, some countermeasures were put forward. ResultsGood Reliability and Validity in test questions were confirmed when test scores had been analyzed.Investigation of the current status of Self-regulated Learning of nursing undergraduates, the result suggested that the level of Self-regulated Learning competencies is not high; The scores of the nursing undergraduates is higher than the technical and junior students (p<0. 05) ; The undergraduates between the 2003 and 2005 have no statistics meaning (p>0. 05) .ConclusionThe study is to develop the measure instrument of competencies of Self-regulated Learning of nursing undergraduates. The statistical analysis showed that the scale had good reliability and validity. It is a reliable criterion of educational comparison and evaluation.The self-made scale was applied to testing the nursing undergraduates, and aimed at the problems reflected from the tests, some countermeasures were put forward. The test results showed that the level of Self-regulated Learning competencies is not high, The scores of the nursing undergraduates is higher than the technical and junior students The study may provide experience and model for preparing studying competencies for the higher nursing education in the future.
