Objective:The aim of this study was to describe nurses’ learning motivation and learningsatisfaction of continuing nursing education (CNE), to compare the differences ofthese under different groups and to give related suggestions. All of these would bereference for hospitals and administrative department to improve the quality of CNEand make related policy.Methods:From July to October2011,452nurses from four general hospitals with gradeⅢ-A, were asked to fill a questionnaire which composes of demographic data ofparticipants, revised Education Participation Scale (EPS), adult learning satisfactionscale and open questions. The reliability and validity of EPS and adult earningsatisfaction scale were confirmed in this rasearch. Set up database by Epidata3.02and analyzed the data by SPSS17.0used the descriptive analysis, t test, onewayANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis H test, etc.Results:1. For the learning motivation, the average score of27items was3.09±0.70, andthe first dimension was “professional advancement”(3.58±0.79) and“escape/stimulation” was the last (2.44±0.81) according to the decending order of sixdimensions of EPS.2. For the learning satisfaction, the average score of23items was3.61±0.57. Andamong the score of five dimensions in adult learning satisfaction scale,“learningoutcome” was the highest (3.70±0.72) and “learning process” was the lowest(3.46±0.64).3.In terms of age, position, marriage, the initial education background, years of working, department, contract type, source of funding and times of participation in thelast year, nurses have significant difference (P<0.05) in learning motivation of CNE.4.In terms of age, position, the initial education background, years of working,department, contract type and source of funding, nurses have significant difference (P<0.05) in learning satisfaction of CNE.Conclusion:1. The level of learning motivation of nurses is medium and better for learn, andthe most major motivation is “professional advancement”.2. The level of learning satisfaction of nurses is medium-up and also has certainascending space. And nurses were most satisfied with “learning achievement”.3. There were differences of learning motivation and learning satisfaction ofCNE between different groups of nurses, such as age, position, the initial educationbackground, years of working, etc. The CNE managers should take interventions tomaintain the motivations and improve the satisfaction according to nurses’ characters.
