Stauntonia chinensis DC. (Lardizabalaceae), has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of analgesic, sedative and anti-inflammatory. But up to the present, research on constituents of it is less. The bioactive constituents of it are still not very clear.The 60% EtOH extract of the rattan of the plant exhibited analgesic effect, evaluated by the acetic acid twisting method of mouse. Farther study showed that the n-BuOH soluble fraction of the 60% EtOH extract was responsible for the analgesic effect. Further pharmacology research displayed that the bioactive constituents mostly fasten on the B4 fraction from the n-BuOH proportion divided by silica gel chromatography.Phytochemical analysis of Stauntonia chinensis DC. has now led to the isolation of eighteen pure compounds. All of them structures were elucidated on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectra methods. Among them, compounds 5, 10, 13 and 14 were new compounds. Compounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 15 were obtained for the first time from this genus.The four new compounds were established as: 1,2-O-[2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1-(hydroxymethyl)-1,2-ethanediyl]-β-D-glucopyranose (5), methyphenyl-2-O-[5-O-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoyl)-D-apio-β-D-furanosyl]-β-D-glucopyranose (10), (13), (14).The known compounds were determined to be: 4-hydroxy-2,6-dimethoxyphenyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), 4-hydroxy-2-methoxyphenyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), 1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1,2,3-propanetriol (3), 1-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-1,2,3-propanetriol (4), 1,2-O-[2-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-(hydroxymethyl)-1,2-ethanediyl]-β-D-glucopyranose (6), 1,2-O-[2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,2-ethanediyl]-6-[(2E)- 3-(3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-propenoate]-β-D-glucopyranose(7), 2-(3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethyl, 6-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoate)-β-D-glucopyranose(8), 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl-2-O-[5-O-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoyl)-D-apio-β-D-furanosyl]-β-D-glucopyranose(9), 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl, 6-[(2E)-3-(3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-propenoate]-β-D-glucopyranoside (11), 2-(3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethy, 6-[(2E)-3-(3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-propenoate]-β-D-glucopyranoside(12), Stauntophenoside A(13), Stauntophenoside B(14), 3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-N-[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]-(2E)-2-propenamide(15), 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-Akebonic acid(16), 3, 23-dihydroxy-Akebonic acid(17), 3, 23-dihydroxyl-Oleanolic acid(18), 23-hydroxy-3-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-Oleanolic acid (19).
