Therefore, it is necessary for us to study the ability form of evidence-based nursing for nurses to work out strategies on improving evidence-based nursing. Objectives: To study the ability form of evidence-based nursing for nurses and investigate the current status of evidence-based practice of nurses. Then work out strategies for improvement of evidence-based nursing. Methods: Firstly, analyzed the domestic and overseas evidence-based nursing-related medical documents and interviewed experts to decide the ability form of evidence-based nursing for nurses. Secondly, self-made a questionnaire upon the affirmation of experts. Finally, carried out an investigation to determine the current status of evidence-based practice of nurses in top-ranked hospitals of Nanjing.Results:1. The ability form of evidence-based nursing for nurses are: attitudes towards EBN, knowledge of EBN and skills in EBN. The nine related factors are: cognition of evidence-based nursing, behavior tendency, knowledge about concept and methods of evidence-based nursing, critical thinking, ability of literature retrieval and appraisal, effective communication and decision making.2. The results suggest that nurses' abilities of evidence-based nursing are not promising. Nurses show interest and behavior tendency, but don't have deep understanding about its concept and methods. In other words, although nurses show positive attitudes towards evidence-based nursing, they have quite limited knowledge about it; Nurses conduct critical thinking at one level, but are unable to work out a scientific approach independently and resort to experiential solutions. Nurses show poor abilities in conducting literature retrieval and appraisal. Their communicative ability is generally good and they can consider the specific requirements of patients, but their clinical decisions are usually made in view of experiences.3. Worked-out strategies on the training of clinical include:â‘ integrate the conception of EBN into nurse training project;â‘¡enable nurses to get access to evidence-based nursing through continued education;â‘¢create conditions for nurses to undertaking EBN; On the education to school students include:â‘ transform the educational conception and develop students' critical thinking ability;â‘¡reform the instructional methods and impart evidence-based nursing to students;â‘¢ reconstruct nursing curriculum in light of improving students' evidence-based nursing ability;â‘£strengthen on-the-job staff training to update instructors' evidence-based nursing ability. Conclusions: Nurses' abilities in evidence-based nursing are not promising. It is necessary to create better conditions in both hospitals and schools so as to improve nurses' ability in EBN.
