The voice disorders of teachers are very common . Dysphonia may be caused by vocal orgian overwork. It is reported that incidence of voice disorders is 6.6% in general population.With the development of socity,there are many professional voice users.Frequency of use voice is higher than the rest. Professional voice users take voice as a primary tool of trade.Thus voice disorders cause many inconvenience in daily life and have the important influence to life and work quality as well as physicology .Teachers use voice as teaching means among professional voice users.The teachers are thought to be at a higher risk of voice disorders than the general population.Many teachers are perplexed by voice disorders.At the same time,voice disorders also interfere with the lives and work of teachers.In order to have a deeper understanding of kinds of voice disorders,prevalence rates, pathogenesis and risk factors. A study about voice disorders of the primary and secondary school teachers was conducted in QinHuangDao.Methods:The investigation was conducted from 2006,3 to 2006,12 at HaiGang region of QinHuangDao,1123 teachers consist of 495 male teachers and 628 female teachers.All data were collected at school.All teachers filled in a standard questionnaire and posteriorly underwent indirect laryngoscope and videolaryngostroboscopy examination.Results:(1)The prevalence of voice disorders among teachers was 37.67%,Among the voice disorders,48.46% for chronic laryngitis,25.53% for subacute laryngitis,13.00% for Rinke edema,4.72% for vocal polyp,2.36% for vocal nodules respectively.(2)The prevalence of voice disorders in secondary and primary scoool teachers was 34.25%and 42.96% respectively,In comparison to secondary and primary scoool teachers,There was a significant difference(χ2=7.97,P=0.04),Primary school teachers had a higher prevalence of voice disorders than secondary school teachers even when teaching characteristics and years employment are similar,women were known to be more susceptible to voice disorders.(3)Compared to male,female teachers are known to be more susceptible to voice disorders.(4)There were no significant difference in every type of course taught(χ2=1.71,P=0.426).(5)Compared to hours taught weekly,The difference in voice disorders was significant (χ2=13.16,P<0.05),The teachers with more hours taught weekly were association with an increased risk of developing a voice disorders.(6)Prevalence of voice disorders of common teaching,multimedia teaching and integration was 43.45% ,26.13% ,38.86% respectively,The difference of three teaching ways was found to be significant (χ2=23.60,P<0.05).Two-two comparison,the difference in commom and multimedia teaching were significant(χ2=23.49,P<0.05),The difference in multimedia and intergeration were significant (χ2=11.28,P<0.05 ), The difference in commom teaching and integration were no significant(χ2=1.74,P>0.05).(7)The difference in number of cigarette smoked daily were significant(χ2=7.21,P=0.03),More cigarettes smoked daily result in a higher risk of voice disorders. Two-two comparison, In comparison to number of cigarettes consumed daily less than 10 and 10-20,The difference were significant(χ2=5.83,P=0.02),In comparison to number of cigarettes consumed daily less than 10 and over 20,the difference were significant(χ2=5.20,P=0.02),In comparison to number of cigarettes consumed daily 10-20 and over 20,the difference of prevalence rate were no significant(χ2=5.83,P=0.02).(8)Compared to teachers with drinking water habits at class interval ,The teacher without drinking water habits had higher risk of developing a voice disorders(χ2=13.71,P=0.00).Conclusions: The studies have revealed that the teachers had a higher occupational risk ,The main risk factors for voice disorders were vocal loading and vocal abuse . The finding also suggested that environmental and psychoemotional factor had a negative influence on voice .
