Based on the theories and principles of phytochemistry and modern chemical isolation and purification methods, the chemical constituents in Abrus cantoniensis Hance. have been studied with the conventional methods. And the research in and abroad of chemical constituents, bioactive and medical action of Abrus were simply reviewed. Then we simply reviwed the use of ultrasonic technology in extraction of natural products. The system atically preliminary tests have been done by the methods of the tube-test. It was found that Abrus cantoniensis Hance. contains alkaloids flavonoids and its glycosides, saponin, organic acid, amino acid, steroids, terpenoids, saccharide enthraquinones and its glycosides. It is reported that akaloid is one active constituents of A. cantoniensis, to make better research of it we studied the technology of extraction total alkaloids from this plant. The best extraction technology were obtained through the orthogonal experimental design. The results showed that influencing factors of ultrasonic extraction arranged in order were as follows: extracting times>extracting time>solid-liquid ratio; The optimum ultrasonic extraction conditions: the sample powder was extracted 4 times with industrial ethanol, 50 min each, solid-liquid ratio (w:v) 1:12.With the solvent extraction, thin layer chromatography, column chromatography and recrystallization, six compounds were separated from the Abrus cantoniensis Hance These compounds are as follows:Ⅰ(34mg),Ⅱ(29mg),Ⅲ(60mg),Ⅳ(14mg),Ⅴ(10mg),Ⅵ(8mg),. And their purity was checked by TLC method, the results showed that they were purity compounds. Based on chemical reactions and spectral analysis (EI-MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR), four of them were elucidated asⅠ: o- hydroxybenzoic acid,Ⅱ:β- sitostrerol,Ⅳ: 4'-methoxy- 2'- hydroxy- chalcone,Ⅴ:2', 4'- dihydroxychalcone, and compoundⅢwas determined prelimimarily as ursolic acid. CompoundⅣandⅤare separated from Abrus cantoniensis Hance. firstly.
