PURPOSE: To explor the effect of Huangqifizhitang on oxidative stress in patientsundergoing hemodialysis.METHODS: twenty-three healthy individuals serve as control group; 44 patientswere divided into 2 groups: PMMA group and PS group, Serum Creatinine,BUN,SOD,CAT, PSH-PX, MDA were measured before and after hemodialysis; after6-day-Administration of fufanghuangqifizitang, all parameters were determined. Allgroups were matched for age and gender.RESULTS: in PMMA group and PS group SOD,CAT,GSH-PX in erythrocyte weresignificantly decreased (P<0.01), MDA significantly increased (P<0.01) no differentwere found in plasma SOD; MDA were significantly increased after hemodialysis inboth experiment groups (P<0.01), meanwhile CAT and GSH-PX was increased inPMMA group after hemodialysis (P<0.05), however no difference was observed inPS group (P>0.05); after administration fufanghuangqifuzitang, MDA weresignificantly decreased in both experiment group (P<0.01), and SOD,GSH-PX weresignificantly increased (P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS: The effect of fufanghuangqifuzitang is noticeable with antioxidantenzyme activities in patient undergoing hemodialysis; Hemodialysis leads to signify-cant increase in oxidative stress of patients with chronic renal failure.Biocompatibility of PMMA is better than PS.
