Nidus Vespae is the nest ofPolistes olivaceous (DeGeer), Polistes japonicus Saussure or Para polybiavaria Fabricius which belongs to insects of vespidae. Nidus Vespae widely dist-uributed in China, which is cheap and obtained easily. Nidus Vespae has been used in traditi-onal medicine for a long time, as external drug commonly, and to be taken orally randomly. Nidus Vespae has many pharmacological activity especially on anti-tumour and anti-inflamm-ation aspect. On the basis of the summary of their chemistry and pharmacology, this thesis taken a further study on chemical consituents ofNidus Vespae and research on it's anti-infla-mmation activity. From the methanol extract of the Nidus Vespae, by solvent extraction, repeated column chromatography and recrystallization, 16 compounds were isolated. On the basis of physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic analysis, 13 compounds were identified as: 2β,3α-4-acetyl-7-[(2- acetamide)ethyl]- 3-hydroxy-2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2H-benzo[b][1,4] oxazin (1), 8-hydroxyquinoline-4-one(2), thymidine(3), p-dihydroxy benzene (4), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (5), protocatechuic acid(6), caffeic acid(7), ferulic acid(8), kaempferol (9), rutin(10), phthalic acid isodibutyl ester(11), heptadecane(12)andβ-sitosterol(13).Among them, Compound 1 was a novel compound, Cmpound 2 was a new natural com-pound. Compounds 3-6, 8, 10, 12-13 were isolated from this genus for the first time. This thesis researched the anti-inflammation activity of the n-butanol extractions that got from the methanol extract of the Nidus Vespae by testing mouse's ear swelling.
