| Saussurea cauloptera (S. cauloptera), a perennial herbage of Saussurea DC (Compositae), mostly distributed in Northwestern mountainous regions of China. The genus Saussurea DC consists of about 400 species distributed throughout Asia and Europe and about 264 species in our country. Many plant species of the genus Saussurea are commonly used as tranditional Chinese medicine for curing bleeding, gynecology diseases and rheumatism. Up to now no chemical study has been published, which prompted us to systematically investigate the chemical constituents of the whole plant of S. cauloptera, which was collected from Qinghai province of China. Thirty-six compounds were isolated from the petroleum ether (60-90℃) soluble part of the ethanol extract by means of chromatography ways, and thirty out of thirty-six were elucidated as triterpenoids, diterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, steroids etc. on the basis of modern spectroscopic methods (1D NMR,2D NMR,HR-ESI-MS,EI-MS,IR,UV etc.), along with comparison to authentic samples or the data from literatures. Among them three compounds were novel and their structures was elucidated as: 7α-hydroxygerin (2), 8β-deacetylgerin (3), 3α-hydroxyl-ent-labda-8(17),13-dien-16,15-olide (9). The antitumor activities of eudesmane sesquiterpenoids (1-4) from S. cauloptera were studied, and they showed strong activites to SGC-7901 cells. This thesis reviewed about biological activities of eudesmane sesquiterpenoids. The results in this thesis are meaningful in providing theoretical evidence of active constituents of traditional medicinal, and the relationship between structure-activity, which is worthy for seaching new medicine. |
