Nowadays, as the development of social economy and civilization, especially with the rapid spread of personal computer (PC) and Internet, too many kinds of daily electronic products have been generally applied, which has greatly changed our life style. It is widely accepted that the electronic products have brought a lot of convenience to daily work and life, however, they also have brought many potential problems and harms.In this study, we chose cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor, the major radiation source of computer, as research object. The risk or protection factors in a certain group of people were investigated through epidemiological survey and statistical analysis. The electromagnetic radiation intensity, disposition characteristic and variation regulation were detected by professional measuring instrument (8053A-type electromagnetic field radiation meter) during the normal application of CRT monitor. According to the summarization of health lesions in people who have a long-term computer manipulation, related protective measures and strategies were introduced.1. The radiation hazards include cardiovascular system lesions (such as bradycardia, hypopiesia, leukocytopenia, etc.), visual system lesions (such as hypopsia, asthenopia, dryness of eye, etc.), genital system lesions (such as menoxenia, congenital malformation, omotocia, ambloma, etc.), cancer induction and interference the normal usage of cardiac pacemaker.2. To evaluate the radiation intensity of computer, 45 CRT monitors that made in different years were observed according to the correlated standard of national electromagnetic radiation protection regulation. It was showed that the electric field intensity 10 cm from the front of monitor was consistent with the regulation, however, the electric field intensity 10 cm from the flank of monitor was higher than 12V/m which is the dose equivalent limit in regulation and it has significant difference as compared with the electric field intensity 10 cm from the front of monitor. But there were no significant differences among the electric field intensities 10 cm from the left hand side, the right hand side and the back of monitor. Both the electric field intensities 30 cm from the left hand side, the right hand side and the back of monitor were consistent with the regulation and have significant differences as compared with the electric field intensities measured 10 cm from the same positions. The result demonstrated that the electric field intensity 10 cm from the front of monitor was lower than that from other sides. Furthermore, the electric field intensities 30 cm from all sides of monitor were very low and consistent with the regulation.3. Our research has demonstrated that, according to the epidemiological survey and analysis in a certain group of people, the promoting agents in people who suffered from neurasthenic syndrome were contacting electromagnetic radiation (OR=3.425), daily radiation exposure time (OR=2.659), seniority of work (OR=1.495). The protection factors were using protective device (OR=0.616) and eating fruit (OR=0.676). It was also showed that there were more health lesions in the people who have got better education because they were the main operators of electromagnetic radiation equipments and the dose of electromagnetic radiation exposure was obviously higher than that in the people who have got less education.The incidence rate of neurasthenic syndrome in electromagnetic radiation exposed population group was significantly increased, according to the epidemiological survey. It was demonstrated that it is important to have a follow-up study and investigate the health effect of electromagnetic radiation in that certain group of people. The research of electromagnetic radiation protection technique could be enhanced and protective device could be used effectively.Through our research on harms caused by CRT monitor, from aspects of control of manipulating duration, the individual hygiene, the proper protective measure adoption, and better diet for operators, we have narrated CRT irradiation effects on individual health. Meanwhile, related suggestions have been proposed for further reference of local government and corresponding administrative agencies.
