The Establishment And Practical Applications On The Norm Of Nasalance

Nasal Resonance Disorder is one of the speech problems. It presents high nasalization or nasality leak. It affects the patients with their study and life.The quantitative assessment of nasal resonance function is an essential part of speech therapy and rehabilitation for the patients with nasal resonance disorders. Nasalance is one of the important parameters. On the base of the work by Ph.D. Huang Zhaoming, which is a prof. of the department of speech and hearing science in East China Normal University, the author designed the material, established The Norm of Nasalance for preschool children(4-6) and aduIts(18-40) speaking the Chinese. It was considered of the view of the character of Putonghua, the rule of the development of children, and the comparability with other countries and regions.Normative Nasalance Scores indicated that the factor of age was more important than the gender's. The growth of the oral syllable was earlier than the nasal syllables'.The practical applications of nasalance indicated that: nasalance could provide information for the assessment of nasal resonance function. Normative Nasalance Scores could be acted as the supervisor during the process of the assessment and rehabilitation of nasal resonance function.The Norm of Nasalance provides a diagnosable material and data to assess and drill the nasal resonance function on the background of the Chinese. So, it is more accurate, and it is more comparable to other countries.
