Preventing Different Length Of Limbs After Total Hip Arthroplasty(THA)

Objective:Discussed the Preventing method of different length of lower limbs after Total Hip Arthroplasty(THA).Methods:Chose the length of artificial neck under the guide of measuring the motor center of femoral head by X-ray template before the operation. Preventing different length of lower limbs through three methods : measure double large promontories on similar line, measure the lower borders of both patellas in the same line, pull-draw test to judge the length of both thighs,and then,made the decision of the artificial neck length according to the tension of soft tissue.Divided 44 pationts from March,2006 to March,2007 into 2 groups:A group:similar length of the things,B group:different length of the things.Results:Studied 48 THA cases among 44 patients.The difference of double thighs was as follows: Before operation A group:﹣0.1±0.2cm;B group:﹣1.2±0.3cm. After operation A group:0.3±0.1cm; B group:0.5±0.2cm. A group:similar length of the things. B group:the difference of lengths was among 5mm in 18 cases. The difference of lengths was among 1.0cm in all cases. the results were satisfied.Conclusion:They were ideal method to Prevent different length of lower limbs after THA and had applicable value.
