Comparison Of Vision Quality With Blue Blocking IOL Vs. Tinted Aspheric IOL

Objective : To compare the effects of Blue Blocking IOL (SN60AT) with those of Tinted Aspheric IOL (AQ-310Ni) on mesopic contrast sensitivity and color vision.Methods: 60 eyes of 30 patients with no ophthalmic disorder other than cataract who had PEA and implanted Tinted Aspheric IOL (AQ-310Ni) in one eye and Blue Blocking IOL (SN60AT) in the fellow eye. Those 42 eyes of the 21 patients with BCVA (best corrected visual acuity) of more than 1.0 and without PCO, fundus defects, or color vision defects at 3 months postoperatively were examined BCVA in distance, near visual acuity with correction in distance, BCVA in near, color vision and contrast sensitivity. BCVA are examined under illumination of ordinary chamber, 50 lux, and 20 lux. contrast sensitivity was measured with the FACT contrast sensitivity chart and the color vision with the SPP2 test under 500 lux, 100 lux, 50 lux, and 20 lux.Results: 1) There is no significant difference in corrected visual acuity under all illumination between those 2 lenses. 2) There is no significant difference in ranges of pseudo-accommodation between those 2 lenses. 3) The tinted aspheric IOL showed better results with SPP2 under the illumination of 20 lux and 50 lux with statistically significant differences. 4)The tinted aspheric IOL showed better results with contrast sensitivity under all illumination with statistically significant differences.Conclusion: The use of tinted aspheric IOL is more advisable because our study of visual function comparison between the tinted aspheric IOL and the blue blocking IOL has verified that the tinted aspheric IOL has significantly better visual function under lower photopic illumination.
