Periodontal disease refers to a group of problems that arise in the attachment apparatus of the tooth, namely, the diseases occurred in gingival, periodontal ligament, alveolar process and cementum. They can be divided into two major categories of diseases including gingival disease and periodontitis. Periodontal disease has been classified as one of the two main categories of diseases in oral cavity. It has reached a relatively high rate of morbidity around the whole world. In China, the rate of morbidity of periodontal disease is even higher than that of dental caries. Periodontal disease belongs to one of the very harmful diseases. Especially when it reaching an advanced stage, people will be at high risk for loose teeth or loss teeth, and inertia in chewing. That will seriously affect people's digestion function, which can even lead to hidden dangers of gastrointestinal diseases. For periodontal disease is one of the main causes of people's teeth loss, as a result, with China's having entered into an aging society, it will become a more prominent health problem. Periodontal disease is insidious, and it is considered as a slowly progressing disease. In the early stage, it is mostly found to be gingivitis with no subjective symptoms or gingivitis with slight symptoms, which is easy to be neglected by people. But if we let it take its course and only when its symptoms have become evident, then to go to see a doctor, the disease may have already reached a late stage. By that time, some diseases even cannot be cured and at last people have to have their teeth extracted. According to the research materials in China and abroad, it shows that gingivitis is a quite common disease occurred among children and the teenagers. And it will come to a boom when children and the teenagers come into their puberty. Almost all the children have been suffering from gingivitis, seriously or slightly.
