OBSTRUCTIVES 1.To investigate the incidence of cardiac troponin T (cTnT, a specific marker for cardiac injury) elevation and the correlation between cTnT and PaO2 in parients with acutely exacerbated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. 2. To assess the prognostic value of cTnT elevation during hospital stay for acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.METHODS Eighty-two consecutive patients with confirmed acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were enrolled in this prospective study. Serum cTnT, myoglobin (Mb), creatine kinase -MB mass (CK-MBmass) and arterial blood gas were measured within 24 hours after admission and 24h later (in patients with no improvement of respiratory failure and the degree of dyspnea), and twelve-lead electrocardiogram was taked in the same time. The following data were collected: general data ( gender, age ) , body mass index, MMRC dyspnea scale, vital sign, risk factors for atherosclerotic artery disease (active smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia) , white blood cell count, ventricular arhythmia, atrial fibrillation, clinical presence of right ventricular dysfunction. The levels of cTnT, Mb and CK-MBmass above the upper limit of normal value were considered elevated. The time of admission was regarded as zero point, then follow-up clinic outcome...
