Objective: To observe the effect of the grape seed extract on anti-atherogenesis and decrement of atherosclerosis. Methods: Inbred C57BL/6J mice that were susceptible to atherosclerosis were randomly divided into interventional and therapeutic group, each subdivided into 5 groups respectively, i.e.: control, hyperlipidemia model. Low-dose and high-dose grape seed extract and drug group. In interventional group, the mice of control group were fed with basic forage, while the mice in four other groups with high-fat forage. Meanwhile, the mice in low and high dose grape seed extract group were given grape seed extract by intragastrition, while those in drug group treated with Probucol tablets medicine. The experiment was last 21 weeks. The mice in therapeutic group had been given high-fat forage for 21 weeks also, and then changed basic forage, administrated grape seed extract for 4 weeks. After plasma sample being collected by extirpating eyeball, the mice were killed, the heart and the antrum of aorta were immediately made continuous pathologic slice. The oxidized low density lipoproteins (OxLDL) were tested by ELISA, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), nitric oxide (NO), triglyceride (TG), cholesterol (Chol) by enzyme, malondialdehyde (MDA) by spectrophotometry. Results: Pathologic morphology of aorta was observed under microscope. The results were as follows: Firstly, in interventional group, the pathologic degree of aorta of mice treated with grade seed extract was less serious than that in hyperlipidemia model...
