Objective: To study effect of hemiplegic shoulder pain and genu recurvatum on recovery of upper and lower limb function and research Preventive and therapeutic effect of early rehabilitation on them. Method: 100 acute hemiplegic patients were randomly divided into tow groups, the rehabilitation group(50) and the control group(50).Patients who appear shoulder pain in survey period are rehabilitation or control shoulder pain groups, the others are rehabilitation or control no-shoulder pain group, and as so, Patients who appear genu recurvatum in survey period are rehabilitation or control genu recurvatum groups, the others are rehabilitation or control no- genu recurvatum group. Patients in the rehabilitation group were given clinical treatment and regular physical therapy. While those in control group were given clinical treatment only, and the evaluation of affected limb function(measured by Fugl-Meyer scale and neurologic impairment scale) was done in pre-treatment and post 6 months respectively. Result: The scores of patients between shoulder pain and non-shoulder pain or genu recurvatum and non-genu recurvatum in rehabilitation or control group are no significant difference pre-treatment (p>0.05) . The scores of patients with shoulder pain or genu recurvatum are worse than the scores of non-shoulder pain or genu recurvatum group after six months(P<0. 05). the improvement of score of shoulder pain or genu recurvatum group in rehabilitation group is obviously superior to that of control group(P<0.05).The number of shoulder pain patients or genu recurvatum in two groups are no significant difference pre-treatment (p>0.05) , while there are significant difference during survey period (P<0. 05), and the numbers of curing patients between rehabilitation group and control group are significant difference (P<0. 05). Conclusion: The occurrence of shoulder pain or genu recurvatum hampered the improvement of affected limb function ,early rehabilitation therapy can prevent and cure shoulder pain or genu recurvatum efficiently.
