Objective: Through analysis of clinical cases, to compare the advantages and disadvantages of transsphenoidal versus subfrontal pituitary adenomectomy and summarize the experience of operation therapy to pituitary adenoma.Methods: Retrospective analyse 43 patients admitted between January 2003 and April 2006 with pituitary adenoma .Based on the patients' option to undergo transsphenoidal approach (group A, 14 patients) and subfrontal approach (group B, 29 patients).Age, weight, body mass index(BMI),tumor size, operating time, blood loss, length of stay, postoperative symptomatic relief, postoperative complication , postoperative follow-up conditions were compared between group A and group B retrospectively.Results: In group A, mean age was 43.2 years (range 26 to 61),mean weight was 71.8kg (range 54 to 91), mean body mass index (BMI) was 25.8kg/m~2 (range 20.8 to 30.1),mean tumor size was 1.58cm (range 0.9 to 3.2),mean operating time was 156 minutes (range 124 to 188),mean blood loss was 154ml (range 120 to 180), mean length of stay was 13 days (range 10 to 16), 9 patients with postoperative symptomatic relief, 4 patients without improvement, 1 patient died(about due to subsequent brainstem injury),follow-up was performed at 3 and 6 months after operation, 2 recurrence were detected(l patient complained vision and eyesight failure; 1 patient was detected PRL raised again).In group B, mean age was 42.9 years (range 20 to 76 ),mean weight was 70.1kg (range 52 to 90), mean body mass index (BMI) was 25.0kg/m~2...
