Psychiatric Investigation Of Burning Mouth Syndrome

Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is identified as a condition usually associated with an unexplained, prolonged sensation of pain and/or burning inside the oral cavity in the absence of distinctive histological changes in oral mucosa. This condition is probably of multifactorial origin, often idiopathic, and its etiopathogenesis remains largely obscure. There is no consensus on the diagnosis and classification of BMS. Burning Mouth Syndrome mainly affects middle-aged/old women with hormonal changes or psychological disorders. This syndrome often accompany by other phenomena, such as dry mouth, headache and changes in the sensations of taste and smell. Now-days with the increasing focusing on the psychological health of people ,the psychological health of the syndrome also arouses more and more. Some scholars find that hostility, neuroticism, anxiety,depression and so on are important components of the psychological profile of patients with burning mouth syndrome. Psychological obstacle may not only cause BMS but also aggravates it. So the study of BMS on their health mental status and relevant factors offering important evidence to the clinical mental intervention and the elevation of their health mental status, is of great significance. Symptom Checklist 90(patients SCL-90) has been shown to be a reliable and valid measure of anxiety, depression , somatization and so on.Purpose: This study is to analysis psychic aspect of BMS through SCL-90 to present their health mental status and relevant factors that would offer important evidence to improve their clinical mental intervention therapy and health mental status.Methods: 60 burning mouth syndrome patients were assessed with SCL-90 independently according to their actual experience .The data were compared...
