Pharmacodynamic Study of Yulangsan Extracts in Treatment of Bronchial AsthmaObjective: To observe the antiasthmatic and anti-inflammatory effects of total Yulangsan water extract (TYLS), and their three components flavonoids, saponin and polysaccharide extracted from the roots of YLS. Methods: The effect of TYLS and its three components on guinea pig asthma caused by histamine and acetylcholine mixture, and their effect on guinea pig isolated tracheal contraction caused by histamine or acetylcholine were observed. Croton oil-induced ear swelling, carrageenan-induced hind paw edema, and the cotton granuloma in mice were prepared to investigate the effect of YLS on inflammation. Results: TYLS and its three components could obviously prolong the incubation period of asthma produced by histamine and acetylcholine mixture, and they could also markedly relieve the contraction of isolated tracheal smooth muscle of guinea pig induced by histamine or acetylcholine, so that the histamine and acetylcholine concentration response curves were shifted rightward. In addition, TYLS and its three components could remarkably inhibit the mouse croton oil-induced ear swelling, carrageenan-induced hind paw edema and formatiom of cotton granuloma. Conclusion: TYLS and its three components have marked antiasthmatic and anti-inflammatory effects.
