In the present studies, the DNA damage of mouse lymphocyte cell induced by febrifuge and detoxifying herbs and their compatibilities frequently used clinically were studied with single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE), offering the evidence on heredity toxicology of the traditional Chinese medicine and guiding clinic rationally. In the study of comparing the whole blood specimen and abstracted lymphocyte in SCGE, the results showed that the lymphocyte DNA damage induced by those two noxious substances K2Cr2O7 (10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg, i.p.)and ethanol (1 g/kg, 2 g/kg, i.p.) could be found with the two methods indicating that whole blood specimen is more convenient than abstracting lymphocytes in SCGE.In the study of the DNA damage induced by the febrifuge and detoxifying herbs used alone, 1/3 × clinical dose, clinical dose and 3 × clinical dose were used in the experiments to detect the DNA damage of the lymphocyte once daily for 1d, 3d, 7d, respectively.(1) Flos Lonicerae and Portulaca Oleracea had no influence on periphery blood lymphocyte cell DNA in mice.(2) Brainea Insignis and Radix Isatidis could damage periphery blood lymphocyte cell DNA. The DNA damage induced by Brainea Insignis increased in a time-dose dependent manner.(3) When Caulis Lonicerae, Folium Isatidis, Flos Chrysanthem, Radix Pulsatillae Rhizoma Belamcandae and Herba Taraxaci were used once daily for 1 day; Brainea insignis, Paris Axixlis, Scutellaria...
