Objective: To investigate plasma ghrelin level in the patients with hyperthyroidism and its relation to thyroid hormones. Methods: Plasma ghrelin concentration was measured by enzyme immuno-assay in 20 normoal subjects and 26 patients with hyperthyroidism before and after medical treatment. The relationship between plasma ghrelin levels and thyroid hormones was also analyzed. Results: (1)Plasma ghrelin concentrations was significantly lower in hyperthyroidism than in the normal control(P<0.01).(2)Compared with before medical treatment, plasma ghrelin concentrations were significantly increased in the end of medical treatment for 1 or 2 months in patients with hyperthyroidism ( P <0.01) . Plasma ghrelin concentrations in patients with hyperthyroidism were similar with normal sujects after medical treatment of 2 month (P >0.05), (3)Plasma ghrelin level were negatively correlated with FT4 ,FT3 and body weight (r=-0.43, and r=-0.37, both P<0.01; r=-0.22 P<0.05)and positively with S-TSH(r=0.29, P<0.01,).â‘·Multiple regression analysis showed that FT4 is independent relating factor influencing plasma Ghrelin level.
