Objective To investigate the difference of serum levels of homocysteine between patients with depressive disorder and normal control and the association between serum homocysteine levels and the outcome of antidepressive therapy. Methods The blood of 40 patients with depressive disorder(study group) at baseline and 40 normal health controls were collected and serum levels of homocysteine were determined by fluorescence polarization immunoassay(FPIA).Each of the patients was given an administration of fluoxetine 20mg/doy for 8 weeks. The 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD), Hamilton rating scale for anxiety(HRSA), Brief psychiatric rating scale(BPRS) and clinical global impressions scale (CGI) were also compiled at baseline and on eight-week follow-up. The statistic software was SPSS10.0,the statistic methods were the Student's t-test, chi-squared test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, analysis of variance(ANOVA) and multivariate linear regression analysis.
