Background: The incidence of colorectal cancer is next to lung cancer and gastric carcinoma. It ranks second as a cause of death due to cancer in the Western world. In our country, it ranks fivth in the incidence of malignant carcinoma. It is predicted that the incidence and death rate of colorectal cancer will be steady rising in a long time. The combined therapy regimen of many subjects becomes the general therapy method in colorectal cancer, including Traditional Chinese Medicine.Purpose: According to prospective clinical research to observe the influence of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the treatment of colorectal carcinoma.Patients and Method: The research is performed on 120 patients who were seen at the out-patient and hospital room of Clinical Oncology, in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College in the last year, received TCM or combined treatment of TCM and Western medicine. Evaluate the quality of life with core scale and colorectal carcinoma specific modular of Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy. The scales are mostly twice filled by the patient themselves. The first time is in the beginning of treatment. After received the treatment fouty-five days, the second scale is filled. The result is inputed the computer, found database, and apply the SPPP 11.5 to analysis Result: The scale scores of three groups before treatment are no significance by homogeneity test for variance. The three groups have comparability. After treatment, the scores of the integrated traditional and western medicine group is the highest. The Traditional ChineseMedicine is next in order. The Western medicine group is the lowest. The integrated traditional and western medicine group compare to Traditional Chinese Medicine group have no difference. The two groups respective compared to the western medicine group have difference. The scores of three groups are increased after treatment, The integrated traditional and western medicine group and Traditional Chinese Medicine group have statistical significance. It is concluded that the integrated traditional and western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine can improved the quality of life of patients. The pure western medicine have positive and negative influence, our research demonstrate that the quality of life have no change.Conclusions: The Traditional Chinese Medicine can improve the quality of life of colorectal carcinoma patients. The pure western medicine have positive and negative influence, our research demonstrate that the quality of life have no change. The integrated traditional and western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine can improved the quality of life of patients, it has an advantage to pure traditional or western medicine therapy.
