ObjectiveType 2 diabetes is a common and frequently-occurring disease worldwide, the incidence rate increased year after year, and the age becoming younger and younger, has become a serious hazard to human health of major diseases. The disease with long-term hyperglycemia, causing multiple organs damaged, adverse or failure, such as the eye, kidney, heart, blood vessel and brain, etc, seriously affect quality of life of diabetes. With several changes about the concept of health, the register of disease and medical model,WHO have take QOL(quality of life)as a new indicators of health, thinking QOL is as important as survival time, but more comprehensive values the effects of diseases. At present,QOL has became an internationally recognized comprehensive evaluative indicator and tool of patients' health, and also is the important guidance of diabetic treatment. The characteristic on syndrome differentiation and overall adjustment of TCM(traditional Chinese medicine) is advantage to improve diabetic QOL.The purpose of this study is to observe and verify the clinical effect of QOL of a combination treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine for Type 2 Diabetes having the pattern of"Deficient Qi and Yin combined blood stasis".This study also provides a optimized and reasonable treatment protocols to promote patients' QOL.MethodAccording to the WHO diagnose and traditional Chinese Medicine dialectical standard,128 incipient T2DM patients were chosen from in-and-out patients coming from endocrinology department in the Chinese medical hospital of GuangDong Province from September of 2008 to February of 2009.These selected patients were randomly divided into 2 groups(Group A,B).Based on treatment of controlling blood pressure, adjusting blood lipid and haveing Diabetic diet, group A was given western medicine only(64 patients,2 patients dropped out); group B was given both western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine recipe nourishing Qi-Yin and activating Blood additional(64 patients,3 patients dropped out),and both of the two groups separately received each kind of treatment mentioned above for 3 months.Sex,age, course of type 2 DM,weight index, marital status, educated background, personal income, professional and source of medical expenses of patients in each group were measured statistically, and there were no significant difference(P>0.05),which meant the comparison between groups.Observation indexes include DSQL scale, fasting plasma glucose(FPG),2h plasma glucose(2hPG),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc), blood coagulation, blood lipid.Meanwhile, the change of general physical examination items such as three routine tests(Blood Routine Test,Urine Routine Test,Stool Routine Test),Hepatic and Renal Function,Electrical Cardiogram were observed before and after treatment.ResultsBefore treatment, the basic situation of two groups were no significant difference. After 3 months treatment, the Physiological and psychological/spiritual functions of QOL in the both of groups are improved parentally comparing with pre-treatment(P<0.01),while the function of treatment in group B are improved too,and variation of Physiological and treatment functions in group B pre-and-post treatment has significant difference comparing with group A(P<0.05或P<0.01).Meanwhile,clinical symptom,HbAlc and blood coagulation improve parentally comparing with pretreatment (P<0.05),and variation of observation indexes in group B pre-and-post treatment has significant difference comparing with group A on blood coagulation and clinical symptom(P<0.05),except on HbAlc(P>0.05). The rest of observation indexes are no significant difference not only comparing with pre-treatment but also comparing between the two groups(P >0.05).The safety indexes demonstrated no evident differences before and after the treatment, and no adverse side effects were reported.ConclusionIn this study, the combination treatment of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine includes basic medicine treatment and a traditional Chinese medicine recipe nourishing Qi-and-Yin and activating blood. For Type 2 Diabetes having the pattern of"Deficient Qi and Yin combined blood stasis", this combination treatment can obviously improve patients' QOL and hypercoagulability status. When the method was used clinically,no adverse effect was reported. Therefore, the clinical use of qi-reinforcing and yin-nourishing,blood activating chinese medicine is safe.
