Theory Background:The high fever originated from viral upper respiratory infection is one of the most familiar emergency cases in internal medicine;of which 70%-80% is caused by the virus infection. The fever of viral upper respiratory infection outbreaks acutely, spreads quickly and is very serious, and can take place various complications. But the particular medicine hasn' t been found, and some medicine has adverse reactions.Chinese medicine thinks six exogenous factors lead to the high fever. Heat evil, wind and evil cold, evil plague are the primary evils. The evils invade into the body, the vital-qi and evil compete with each other is the mainly pathogenesis. According the clinical experience, excess syndrome is the main syndrome of high fever. So we produce Chai' e praeparatum mainly including Chinese thorowax root, Zedoray Rhizome, Gypsum and Rhubarb. This praeparatum can relieve the exterior symptoms and the stagnation of qi, clear the heat and toxic factors, it also can eliminate pathogen through purgation. The praeparatum has been proved better clinical therapeutic effect. Objective:To study the therapeutic effect and proper route of administration of chai' e praeparatum to the fever originated from viral upper respiratory infection. Method:1 . clinical observation: We observed 120 adults caught viral upper respiratory infection, who were healthy usually. The human subjects were randomly divided into 2 groups: treated group and control group. The treated group were treated with Chai' e suppository and the control group were treatedwith Indometacin. Then we observed the first time of pyretolysis and the time when the subjects weren' t fever any longer, compared the symptoms level improved. And we compared the results with the clinical curative effect and experience.2^ animal experiment: 2. 1 experiment in vivo: We took theNIHmice infected influenzavirus as the research object, took the mice treated by Ribavirin as the matched control group, and established virus and blank control group, used the original liquid of Chai' e praeparatum as the experiment group, experiment group was divided into per oral cavity medicine group and per rectum medicine group. Then we compared lung index number, the inhibition ratio of lung index number, death rate and the death protection rate, so as to evaluate the curative effect. 2.2 experiment in vitro: We got the serum containing medicine of rabbits which had been given Chai' e praeparatum by two different paths: oral cavity and rectum. Then we checked the influence of serum on the effect of virus to normal cells so as to check if the serum had the effect of antivirus. Result:K The clinical research showed that the first time of pyretolysis of Indometacin was shorter than chai' e suppository (P<0.05). The totally alexipyretic time had no significant difference between the two groups (P>0. 05). Chai' e suppository could relieve nephrasthenia asthma, thirsty, the therapeutic effect of wei-qi syndrome was better than wei syndrome.2> Animal research in vivo showed that the therapeutic effect of oral middle dose group was the best. The therapeutic effect per rectum wasn' t proved good. Animal research in vitro showed that the serum of every group treated by medicine had toxicity to normal cell. The serum without toxicity to normal cell diluted by dilution couldn' t kill virus directly except the Ribavirin group. Conclusion:We think that the chai' e suppository can work in treating the high fever of viral upper respiratory, which belongs to the wei syndrome, qi syndrome and wei-qi syndrome in Chinese medicine through cilinical research.
