The dried root and rhizome of Saposhnikovia divaricata (Turcz.) Schichk are a well-known Oriental crude drug used as a diaphoretic,an antipyriretic and an analgesic in the treatment of cold and its concomi -tant headache and arthralgia under the name of Fangfengin China. It is one of three drugs in Chinese ancient prescription Yupingfeng, whi -ch is composed of Huangqi,Baizhu,Fangfeng. Polysaccharide is the main efficacious ingradient of Yupingfeng. As the constituents of this prescription's polysaccarides,16 polysaccarides in Huangqi,8 in Bai zhu and 5 in fangfeng have been reported. The Crude extract was obtaind from Cultured Fangfeng by extraction with hot water ,foll -owed by successive treatments with ethanol,D280 resin,Sevag reagent, dialysis and then 2 main acidic polysaccaride fraction,SPSa andSPSb, was isolated from the extract by ion-exchange chromatography with DEAE-Sepharose fast flow. Identified by UV, IR, GPC, TLC and HP-CE,two novel ac-idic polysaccaride SPSa and SPSb might be obtained.During the purifiction process of crude Saposhnikovia divaricata polysaccharide (SPS), the decolorizing effects of crude SPS by 8 diff -erent resins were studied in this paper.
