Objective: To study the renoprotective effect of Benazepril in alcoholic nephropathy in the rat. Methods: Alcoholic nephropathy was induced in Adult Winter ratsby treatment with alcohol. Urinary β2microglobulin(β2-MG) level and renal collagen and Transforming growth factor(TGF-β1) expression were detected by radioimmunology, Sirius red staining, and immunohistochemistry (microscope, transmission electron microscope). Results: Compared with the VH-treated rats, rats given alcoholshowed interstitial inflammatory cell infiltration, increased tubulointerstitial fibrin, and tubular vacuolation and swelling. These observations were companied by upregulation of tubulointerstitial collagen and TGF-β1, In addition, urinary β2-MG level significantly increased in the alcoholic nephropathy group. following Benazepril treatment, above parameters were significantly reversed (P<0.01).Conclusion: These findings suggest that alcoholie nephropathy ismanifested by tubulointerstitial inflammation and fibrosis, and that this is associated with upregulation of collagen deposition and TGF-β1 expression. Benazepril confers a renoprotection by decreasing collagen deposition and TGF-β1 expression in a rat model of alcohol ic nephropathy.
