Objectives: To collect information of demology, sociological and epidemiology about female sexual workers (FSW) in top grade entertainment place of Chengdu downtown district and to understand sexual health requirements of FSW related to their knowledge, attitudes and behavior, in order to carry out appropriate behavioral intervention.Methods: Qualitative and quantitative study about AIDS (Acquired Immure Deficiency Syndrome) was applied in the study. Data about characteristics of target palace, mode of commercial sexual trade, demology and behavioral characteristics of female sexual workers, condom use, and so on, through observation, in-depth interview, focus group discussion, anonymous questionnaires survey. Comprehensive intervention was conducted among target population for 5 months, and indexes before and after interventions were compared and analyzed.Results: The female sexual workers in top grade entertainment place have their own characteristics on work situation and sexual business. They are mostly of high-income, those with month income between 2000-4000 yuan and above 4000 account for 43.7% and 33.1%. Educational level of them mostly is senior high school/occupational school (62.5%), junior college or college (20.4%). Their condom use in last sexual contact with client is high (94.4%), but knowledge about STD/AIDS (Sexually Transmitted Disease/ Acquired Immure Deficiency Syndrome) prevention is still deficient. After intervention, their knowledge about STD/AIDS prevention have proved, but rate of condom use was not enhanced. More people realized that they are more susceptible to AIDS, but rate of VCT (Voluntary counseling and Testing) was not changed. And a set of relationship was established.Conclusions: It is still necessary to carry out prevention campaign for female sexual worker in top grade entertainment about STD/AIDS prevention, but the advisable way of intervention should be adjust in terms of characteristics of the target places and population. Peer education is not advocate here.
