Objective: Gastric bypass has become the most efficient and prosperous surgical treatment for morbid obesity in Europe and America contemporarily. By the clinical research of weight loss, complications and quality of life postoperatively, we preliminarily study the effect and feasibility of gastric bypass in our country.Method: The follow-up interval of this study is made reference to the study in other countries. We measured the body weight, BMI index, excess weight loss and GLQI index as QoL before the operations and 3, 6, 9 months after the operations. The value of body weight, BMI index and GLQI index are expressed in mean ± standard division (X±s) and the EWL expressed in percentage. The statistic progresses of body weight, BMI index and EWL are examined with two-way ANOVA and the GLQI index examined with Friedman test.Result: The average weight, BMI index were 103.5kg, 35.9kg/m~2 pre-operatively. And decreased by 86.5kg, 30.0kg/m~2 after 3 months postoperatively, which indicated significant decrease (p<0.05). The decrease tendencies were slow down between 3 to 9 months postoperatively and the slowest decrease occurred between 6 to 9 months. Average excessive weight loss was 72.4% nine months postoperatively. The average GLQI index was 118.8 before operation and decreased by 90.0 after 3 months. The value covered gradually and already approached the preoperative level by 9 months after operation. Conclusion: Performing laparoscopic gastric bypass could gain an excellent weight loss effort and the quality of life could already recover to the normal level in short term in Chinese citizen. There was no evidence of vitamin deficiency. However, the mid- to long-term follow-up is still necessary. Gastric bypass is an effect and worth to promote and popularize in China.
